So the big surprise of Fabio Capello’s final World Cup squad was the omission of Theo Walcott.
Personally, I don’t think Capello can be criticised for this decision. Walcott has had a very indifferent season with Arsenal, in fact many Gooners were openly questioning whether the player has what it takes to be an Arsenal player and have suggested he has gone backwards in terms of his personal progression. Whilst I don’t really subscribe to that view, I think his form made it very difficult to justify his inclusion in the squad, despite knowing that on his day Theo Walcott can terrorise the best defenders in the world with his electrifying pace and sublime footwork.
Capello clearly tried to give the young winger as much chance as possible to impress during England’s two warm-up games against Mexico and Japan, showing an obvious desire to add his name to the final 23, so long as Theo proved his worth.
In the end, Walcott didn’t really get into either game as much as he’d have liked, and Capello was left with little choice other than to leave him out. A real shame for a very good young player, but I’m sure he’ll be back for the Euro Championships.

i think theo walcott should have gone, he hasnt had the best season but he still has the ability to turn a game on its head with a moment of skill. i know lennon is a good player and played well last season but walcott has the experience of being at a world cup which is vital when it comes to the big games and pressure involved on the players is huge.
no way is walcott better than lennon!!! lennon was spurs best player until he got injured last season, he has an end product whereas theo doesn’t know what to do once he gets near the box.
i think reo ferdinand is a massive loss though, can’t see ledley kind being able to play all the games and noone else is anywhere near as good, our defence could be our downfall during this world cup.
Rooney needs to control his temper!!! Anymore swearing at refs and he’ll find himself sent off and missing games. We can’t afford for this to happen to sort it out Fabio!!
