Imogen, Hugh and Super Injunctions

May 17th, 2011

It’s the big talking point on gossip pages, radio talkshows and glossy magazines…which Premier League footballer did Imogen off Big Brother have an affair with?!  Personally, I’m not interested, but the whole issue has really thrust into the limelight the special court order known as the SUPER INJUNCTION!  (Which sounds extremely dramatic and a bit daft).  Until quite recently this legal ruling was completely unknown to the British public, but it’s now big news.

Watching News Night from the comfort of my leather bean bag on Friday night (I know, I’ll have to slow down one day) I saw Hugh Grant, a lawyer and a girl who apparently once slept with Wayne Rooney discussing the issue.  Mr Grant seems to have caused a bit of a stir by stating that the super injunction is a marvellous, if a little flawed, thing.

I have to say, I’m all for freedom of the press as it helps makes our country what it is.  For example, I supported the Mail on Sunday when they blew open the story of FIFA’s questionable World Cup voting system.  Surely, I said, this is what good journalism is all about: exposing corruption and bad practice to help improve the world in which we live.  I couldn’t understand why anyone would prefer to turn a blind eye to what was going on, in the hope that we might have more chance of landing the competition.

However, I do have a great deal of sympathy for stars like Hugh Grant.  I’m not sure why it should be in the public interest for us to know about their affairs and indiscretions.  That seems to me to be solely a private matter.  Clearly, if something genuinely does concern the public, such as the recent case involving Lib Dem MP David Laws, who wrongfully claimed expenses for a room he rented from his gay partner.  However true it may be that Mr Law’s motivation was purely to hide his sexuality, it is surely in the public interest to find out about such an arrangement.

But, when a celebrity romps with a mistress or reality TV contestant, I don’t think the public has an automatic right to find out.  Ideally, laws should be more clear what newspapers can and cannot print, and limit their exposés to those that genuinely do help improve our society rather than simply provide tittle tattle for the country’s workplaces.

A smaller alternative to the Sao Paulo bean bag is its younger brother Sao Luis.  Measuring around 120com diameter, it’s still very large so again, please measure up!

The Sao Luis is currently available for just £229.00 with free delivery.

Slightly smaller still (though it’s still a big one) is the Santiago leather bean bag:

At around 100cm across, the Santiago leather bean bag is large but very manageable and easily moved around from room to room.  On sale now at just £199.00 with free delivery.

We also have the classic teardrop/pear shape/high-back – whatever you like to call it – bean bag in real leather.  Simple and versatile, it’s clear to see why this style of bean bag has remained so popular for so many years:

The XXL bean bag version seen here is currently on sale at just £199 – again, as with all our bean bags, with free delivery.

Latest UK Economic Growth Figures Are In

April 27th, 2011

Growth of 0.5% is a little lower than hoped.

The latest set of UK economic statistics have been announced for the quarter up until March 2011, and the figure of 0.5% growth is a little lower than the forecast 0.7%.  Whilst many, particularly those in opposition, will declare this to be very disappointing, it is at least a rise in contrast to the previous dip of 0.5% to the end of December 2010.  Not ideal, by any means, but it could have been worse!  I always try to be positive about these things as there are so many people who talk down such issues, which is often a major cause of recessions – the dreaded self-fulfilling prophecy!  That said, it strikes me that these government forecasts often seem over optimistic and it’s obvious for all to see.  When, the other day, I heard that government officials were hopeful of 0.7% or more, my gut feeling told me this just wasn’t going to happen!  Hardly scientific, I know.

One snippet of encouragement in the latest data is that manufacturing has grown at an impressive (just over) 1%.  This is very good news because, as we all know, manufacturing will be the best way for the UK to create more balance to its economy over the coming years following a long period of over-reliance on income generated by the financial services industry.

At Cozibag UK, we have certainly noticed that consumers are being a little more prudent with their spending and sales of our luxury bean bags have been more steady than spectacular.  However, our business is extremely flexible and we are lucky to employ a great team that can constantly adapt to market conditions.  Funnily enough, we have been very pleased with sales of real leather bean bags.  We launched new lines of real leather products at a time when the UK economy was only recently out of recession, so we always expected sales to be moderate, but we have actually surpassed our targets.  This is largely because our customers are so happy with their bean bag furniture and the service we provide that they recommend friends – which, as everyone knows, it the smartest way to run any business.

One thing that should cause concern is the continued rate of inflation of around 4% – twice the Bank of England’s target rate.  Cozibag UK is committed to absorbing as much cost as possible, and even though many of our material and transport costs have risen more than once over the past year, our prices have remained as low as ever (lower in some cases).  Again, we believe this is due to the way we operate in such a flexible way.

New, smaller Slouch and house moving…

April 6th, 2011

Following a few customers realising that the original version was just too big, we’ve introduced a smaller version of the Slouch bean bag in our market-leading Everlast Faux Leather material.

With a diameter reduced to 120cm from 140cm (height dimensions remain the same), we hope it’ll offer a viable alternative when space is a little tighter.  As with all of our Everlast Faux Leather bean bags, it’s incredibly strong, delightfully luxurious and comes with a genuine 3 year guarantee.  It’s also priced at just £99 for the time being so I’d definitely recommend it.

On a personal note, I am currently in the process of buying a property for the first time with my partner.  I have previously rented owned houses but strictly on a bachelor basis!  Now, having been with my girlfriend for a number of years, it’s the right time for us to get our own place.  With the housing market in it’s current state, it is quite clear that it’s a buyers market.  We’ve viewed several properties and have been advised that most vendors are open to offers.  We’ve also noticed that houses we looked at some time ago are still on the market, often with reduced prices.

Whilst this situation can be a bit of a nightmare for people who fairly recently bought towards the peak of the market (I should know because I was in that position), it does seem that house prices are correcting themselves after years of crazy, constant rises.

We may now have found the right place but nothing is finalised yet.  What is for certain is that I’ll be taking my Santiago real leather bean bag with me.  I’m planning to decorate this place with freed abandon to produce a cool, create environment…that’s if my girlfriend agrees.  Part of this will be a really soft, relaxed area where my leather bean bag will sit with pride.

Luckily, we won’t have to hire a house removal firm because we have access to a great van hire company here in Birmingham.  As well as all types of vans for hire, they also offer 7.5t vans at a very reasonable rate.  Being old enough to have been automatically issued with a 7.5t entitlement on my driving licence, it’ll be the perfect solution.  Whilst we’re talking transport, a quick mention should go to our local courier/logistics firm, WS Distribution, which does a fantastic job for us.

Sao Paulo leather bean bag back in stock

Leather bean bags now back in stock

January 26th, 2011

Thankfully (I say ‘thankfully’ because we’ve been bombarded by customers asking for updates – which is not a problem, in fact it’s absolutely fantastic, but it’s nice to now be able to give the answer they all seek!) we have now received new stock of leather bean bags.

Since we introduced some new items a few months ago, we have struggled to keep up with demand and are constantly on the phone to our suppliers!  The Sao Luis Beanbag in Tan Brown is a case in point.  Our conscientious customers seem recognise that a simple shape with intricate detailing offers a timeless look that will add a little je ne sais quoi to any living space.  The Tan Brown we use is aniline leather of the highest quality, meaning it is soft and luxurious with a beautiful tone.  Because it’s aniline leather, it has a real vintage quality, with normal wear and tear creating unique characteristics in the leather as time goes by.  Perhaps not the colour to go for if you have kids that are liable to spill anything over everything, since true aniline leathers don’t, by definition, offer a great deal of protection as they are designed to be extremely natural.  But if you’re looking for something timeless, beautiful, stylish and natural-looking, then it could be the one for you.

Our dark chocolate leather bean bags and black leather bean bags offer more protection than our tan brown items as the leathers are lightly coated to guard against spills and scuffs.  However, they are still very natural looking as we only use the finest full grain nappa leather – none of the rigid, plasticy leathers you often see on cheap sofas.

Sale prices will remain static until at least the end of January so there’s still time to snap one up before prices are reviewed.

VAT increase…nothing to see here!

January 4th, 2011

A quick message to say happy new year to all of our customers and readers.  Everyone at Cozibag had a great Christmas, despite the frantic and somewhat stressful couple of weeks caused by the weather beforehand.

There has been plenty of talk in the news about the VAT rise, which came in to force today.  Although a 2.5% rise does not seem to make a massive difference when looked at in isolation, it’s the cumulative effect as well as the big ticket items that will make a tangible difference.

We have decided to absorb the VAT increase for at least the time being, with all prices maintained at  re-Christmas levels.  That means you can still pick up a beautiful Santiago leather bean bag for just £209 including delivery and VAT.  Fancy something a bit bigger?  The Sao Paulo leather bean bag at just £259 is huge and recommended only for those with plenty of space who wish to add some ‘wow’ factor to a stylish living space.  Alternatively, the Sao Luis is a little smaller, though still a huge beanbag.

We have more leather stock on the way within the next few days as numbers are a little low, but we will definitely be keeping prices pegged back until at least the end of January, so there’s no need to rush in just yet to save yourself a few quid.

Real leather bean bags are very popular for modern-retro living

November 16th, 2010

Our leather bean bags are becoming increasingly popular, to the point where we are out of virtually every real leather bean bag in our entire range!  Maybe it’s the soft, sumptuous nappa leather; maybe it’s the intricate panelled seating areas with fine-detail stitching.  Whatever it is, customers love our real leather bean bags and that makes us extremely proud as we designed them ourselves from scratch.

No need to worry about the lack of stock, though, as more is on the way very soon.  It should be here before the end of November, so any orders placed over the next couple of weeks will be delivered in early December at the latest.  Plenty of time to find its perfect position before relaxing at Christmas.

While I’m on here, I should say a big congratulations to Prince William and Kate Middleton on their engagement!  I’m not exactly one to get excited about royal weddings but there’s no denying that occasions like this seem to lift the spirits of the nation to at least a small degree.  And I’m all for anything that makes a difference to the usual doom and gloom we hear on a daily basis.  So, a toast – to the happy couple!

If you happen to be on Will and Kate’s wedding invitation list, maybe you should think of buying them a nice big, luxurious leather bean bag such as the Sao Paulo…they really are fit for royalty.

High-back XXL leather bean bag back in stock

October 13th, 2010

We have taken delivery of the High-back (XXL) bean bag in nappa leather and it is now available to buy online in four colours: Black, Dark Chocolate Brown, Tan Brown and White.

Previously, we offered this beanbag in a thicker ‘dry-mall’ type leather, but we’ve now upgraded it to our finest, soft nappa leather to fit alongside the rest of our leather bean bag range: Sao Paulo beanbag, Sao Luis beanbag and the Santiago beanbag.

As ever, we’ve paid the utmost attention to detail during the leather-sourcing and manufacturing process to ensure our bean bags are finished to the highest possible standard.  We only produce beanbag furniture that offers our customers a feeling of luxury that you just don’t get with many other retailers’ products (who usually opt for the cheaper leather options and may cut corners during the manufacture).

We are currently pricing the High-back (XXL) leather bean bag at just £199 including delivery, a drop of £80 from the RRP.  As things start to hot up for Christmas this price may change and it’s best to get in early as numbers are limited for the time being.

Sao Luis Tan Brown leather bean bag back in stock…for now

October 5th, 2010

After a short absence, the increasingly popular Sao Luis tan brown leather bean bag is now back in stock.  Word of warning, however: we only have a few available at the moment and, as I mentioned, they are extremely popular.  They are also still at the hugely discounted price of £219 with FREE delivery, so I’d advise anyone looking at this large, retro-stylish leather bean bag to get in there quickly before they are all snapped up!

A quick congratulations must go to the European Ryder Cup team for their gallant victory over the yanks yesterday.  Although not particularly a golf fan (I’ve played once and had to resort, with the blessing of my opponent, to throwing the ball instead of teeing off as it was much less embarrassing than skewing each drive at such seemingly impossible angles), and not really understanding the rules of the Ryder Cup point-scoring system, I enjoyed the finale on the fourth and final day.  It was nail biting stuff and a pleasure to watch as I relaxed in front of the box on my huge Sao Paulo leather bean bag whenever I managed to sneak off for a tea break.

As usual, huge discounts are still available on all of our luxury designer beanbags.
